Posted on: American Athletic Conference Website

Providence, R.I. – Tulane junior third baseman Kody Hoese was named National Hitter of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), as announced by the organization Tuesday. Hoese is the second American Athletic Conference player to earn a national weekly honor from the NCBWA after ECU lefthander Jake Kuchmaner was named National Pitcher of the Week in back-to-back weeks.

Hoese had an outstanding week at the plate, batting .579 and slugging 1.316. The junior third baseman tallied 11 hits, nine RBIs, nine runs scored, four home runs, two doubles and drew a pair of walks in a week that included a series win against Wichita State. He had multiple hits and RBIs through all four games last week, including a career-best 5-for-5 performance with three RBIs, two home runs and three runs scored at New Orleans Tuesday night. He registered two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored in each of the three games against the Shockers, hitting homers in the first and second game of the series.

On the year, Hoese leads The American in batting average (.403), runs scored (40), home runs (16), RBIs (40), total bases (113) and slugging percentage (.843). His 113 total bases lead the NCAA, while his 16 home runs are tied for first in the nation with Arizona State’s Hunter Bishop. In total, he owns six top-10 marks in the NCAA, as his home runs per game (0.50) are tied for second, hits rank fourth, slugging percentage ranks fifth and runs rank ninth nationally.
